Birmingham Literature Festival (October 2019)
An exciting range of upcoming events celebrating literature will be taking place across Birmingham from the 3rd – 13th October this year. A project begun by the charity Writing West Midlands, the region’s literature development agency, the annual festival provides an opportunity to learn from excellent writers, speakers, activists, intellectuals and artists from across the UK and beyond.
A wide range of talks, activities and workshops are available throughout the festival, including experiences throughout the Birmingham area such as historic canal walks and afternoon teas. A variety of themed writing workshops are also available, with subjects ranging from LGBTQ+ and meditation to guidance on writing for particular genres such as poetry and historical fiction.
The festival also includes performances and guest speakers, again on a wide range of literature and/or work inspired by literature. This includes the live-recording of ‘Podcast from the Past’ with broadcaster, writer and guest curator Stuart Maconie – digital and televised content being another diverse way of bringing the festival events to a diverse audience.
You can find out further information about the schedule of events via the website (and you can also book places online), and follow the events via social media such as the Twitter page @Bhamlitfest and #BLF19.
