Stories from Objects: Podcasts from the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology (UoB)
The Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Birmingham have launched a podcast series ‘Stories from Objects‘, available to listen to online for free through Spotify, which detail three specialist teaching collections currently used for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the department.
These are the Archaeology collection, the Eton Myers collection, and the Environmental Archaeology collection, all of which contain hundreds of objects. The Archaeology collection has recently been refurbished, and as part of the relaunch a number of Object in Focus talks are also taking place throughout the year in which staff from the department will speak about specific objects in the collections, highlighting what they can tell us about the ancient world.
The podcast series includes a range of speakers from academics, museum professionals and students who discuss various aspects of the teaching collections, covering objects such as Roman coins, animal bones, Greek pottery, and Egyptian amulets. These podcasts are intended for anyone interested to gain an insight into the collections and enjoy learning these stories from objects. Future podcasts for 2020 will also be available through the above link.
