Upcoming Event/Opportunity: Propose a Session at the Museums Association Conference

The Museums Association theme for the upcoming Conference and Exhibition taking place in November 2020 is: ‘Power to the People – Democratising our Museums’.

As part of this theme, Museums Association are actively looking for ideas for activities within the event such as panel discussions and debates, workshops and more for people to demonstrate the meaningful impact that communities can provide, and the capacity that museums have to change people’s views and make a positive difference. These ideas can be provided from both those within and out-with the museum sector, and invitations for such thoughts relating to this year’s theme hope to address challenging issues within the wider heritage sector.

Ideas could include how museums can use their influence, share power, and become more democratic institutions, perhaps through structural changes. Proposals for the November 2020 event, which will be held in Edinburgh, are now open and will be accepted until Monday 2nd March. This event will include discussion of subjects such as decolonisation within the museum, engaging with social change and themes such as climate change.

For further information about how to submit a proposal for the conference, visit the Museums Association webpage, which also includes some associated guidance notes. Tickets for the Museums Association Conference and Exhibition are also now available to book, and further information on prices and booking can be found on the Museums Association website. The wider event will take place on 5-7 November 2020 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, and will include the chosen proposals.
