Upcoming Exhibition: “Art and Social Change: The Disability Arts Movement”
An upcoming exhibition at MAC (Midlands Arts Centre) focuses on art and the Disability Arts Movement, an important civil rights group of artists and activists who fought against the marginalisation of disabled people, and led to the passing of the Disability Discrimination Act in 1995.
This exhibition has been developed and curated by artist Anna Berry, who is currently undertaking a placement at MAC (and we have had the pleasure to interview for Research/Curate! See our podcast on Disability Art). The exhibition presents art work that raised awareness of the wider movement, as well as objects that were used by activists, and has been supported by other organisations including Shape Collections, Imperial Health Charity Art Collection, and a range of exhibiting artists who have loaned their work to the exhibition.
The exhibition is open from 11th January – 22nd March 2020.
